Md Iqramul Haq Selected as a Trainee Under the STAGE Program.

STAGE Prairies is pleased to announce that Md Iqramul Haq has been selected as a STAGE Trainee with his project, “Setting Targets for Reduced Antimicrobial Use in Animal Agriculture: An Evidence-Based Approach.

Iqramul is currently a PhD student in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary, where he is conducting research under the supervision of Drs. Adel Mohammadpour and Mina Aminghafari.

Before embarking on his doctoral journey, he earned a Bachelor’s of Statistics from Jagannath University, Bangladesh. He is an Editorial Board Member, of the International Journal of Medical Science in Clinical Research and Review. Previously, he served as an Editorial Board Member of BMC Women’s Health and is currently a trainee member of the Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Network (CAN-AMR-Net). He is also a recipient of the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES)-International Award. Iqramul has previously made contributions in the application of machine learning algorithms to predict depression and suicidal behaviors among university students in Bangladesh. He is currently focused on developing evidence-based AMU reduction targets for dairy and beef cattle, swine, and poultry that achieve meaningful reductions in AMR while preserving animal health and productivity.

His STAGE project aims to validate statistical tools for analyzing MIC-based AMR data from animal isolates and quantify how varying levels of restricted AMU in animals may influence AMR in humans.

STAGE is proud to support Iqramul in his research endeavors and looks forward to his contributions in connecting animal indicators to provincial health administrative and laboratory datasets to study how changes in animal use may influence resistance and infections in people.
