Denitsa Vasileva Selected as a Trainee Under the STAGE Program.

STAGE British Columbia is pleased to announce that Denitsa Vasileva has been selected as a STAGE Trainee with her project, “Development of Accurate Epigenetic Clocks Across the Lifespan.”

Denitsa is currently a PhD student in the Graduate Program in Bioinformatics at the University of British Columbia, where she is conducting research under the supervision of Drs. Denise Daley and Keegan Korthauer.

Before embarking on her doctoral journey, she earned an HonoursBachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Toronto and MSc (Bioinformatics) from the University of British Columbia. She is also a recipient of a Postgraduate Scholarship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Denitsa has previously made contributions in the field of genetics by reviewing emerging biomarkers for asthma and allergic disease. She is currently focused on the use of machine learning and statistical approaches to derive insight in the processes of growth, development and aging using DNA methylation data.

Her STAGE project aims to develop an epigenetic clock that has high accuracy throughout the lifespan and does not underestimate epigenetic age in older adults (65+ years).

STAGE is proud to support Denitsa in her research endeavors and looks forward to her contributions in examining the impact of statistical methods of epigenetic clocks.
