CANSSI STAGE Welcomes PhD Trainee Desmond Bartholomew
Desmond Bartholomew Selected as a Trainee Under the CANSSI STAGE
Jonathan Babyn Selected as a Trainee Under the CANSSI STAGE Program.
CANSSI STAGE is pleased to announce that Jonathan Babyn has been selected as a CANSSI STAGE Trainee with his project, “Close-Kin Mark-Recapture for Small Non-Sparse Samples.”
Jonathan is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Fisheries and Marine Institute at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he is conducting his STAGE research under the supervision of Drs. Joanna Mills Flemming and Daniel Ruzzante.
Before embarking on his doctoral journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from the University of Saskatchewan. He is also a recipient of the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences’ Doctoral Thesis Award.
Jonathan has made several contributions to stock assessment, having worked on models and tools surrounding the process and continues to do so.
His CANSSI STAGE project aims to develop a more accurate
version of Close-Kin Mark-Recapture (CKMR) for smaller populations where sparse sampling is not possible.
CANSSI STAGE is proud to support Jonathan in his research endeavors and looks forward to his contributions in enhancing the use of CKMR for critically endangered species by yielding more precise abundance estimates and more robust confidence intervals.
CANSSI STAGE (Strategic Training for Advanced Genetic Epidemiology) is a CANADA-wide training program in molecular epidemiology and statistical -omics.
