Speaker Profile:
Dr. John Witte received his Ph.D. in 1994 from the University of California, Los Angeles, and did a postdoctorate in biostatistics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. From 1995 to 2003 he worked at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, on genetic epidemiology methods and launched multiple studies of prostate cancer genetics. In 2003 he moved to the University of California, San Francisco, where he is currently Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Associate Director of the Institute for Human Genetics, Head of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Co-Leader of the Cancer Genetics Program. Dr. Witte’s work encompasses a synthesis of methodological and applied genetic epidemiology, with the overall aim of deciphering the mechanisms underlying complex disease. His methodological work is primarily on the design and statistical analysis of next-generation sequencing projects and genome-wide association studies. His applied work is mostly focused on prostate cancer, pharmacogenomics, and birth defects.
