Sohom Dey Selected as a Trainee Under the STAGE Program.

STAGE Toronto is pleased to announce that Sohom has been selected as a STAGE Trainee with his project, “Genetic and Neurodevelopmental Pathways in Adolescent Externalizing Psychopathology: A Multimodal Longitudinal Study.”

Sohom is currently a PhD student in the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto, where he is conducting research under the supervision of Drs. James L. Kennedy, Michael Wainberg and Vanessa Gonçalves.

Before embarking on his doctoral journey, he earned a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. In 2025, he presented his research on the role of sleep in mediating genetic risk for ADHD at the Society of Biological Psychiatry in Canada and at the World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics in Mexico. Sohom has previously made contributions in  the field of machine learning and computer vision – including work on deep learning based retinal vessel segmentation.

His STAGE project aims to integrate genomic, neuroimaging, environmentaland behavioral data within a longitudinal, multi-modal framework to elucidate developmental pathways underlying ADHD and disruptive behavior disorders, with the goal of identifying mechanistic processes, neurodevelopmental markers, and clinically meaningful subgroups that can inform early identification and prevention strategies.

STAGE is proud to support Sohom in his research endeavors and looks forward to his contributions in statistical genetics, neurodevelopmental modeling, and multimodal data integration.
