SUMMARY:STAGE ISSS: Daniel J. Schaid
DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us for the next instalment of the STAGE International Speaker Seminar Series (ISSS) with\n\n\n\nDaniel J. Schaid\n\n\n\nProfessor of Genomics Research, Division of Biomedical Statistics and InformaticsChair, Department of Quantitative Health SciencesMayo Clinic \n\n\n\nTalk Title:\n\n\n\nStatistical Fine-Mapping: Methods to Move Beyond Genome-Wide Association Studies\n\n\n\nAbstract:\n\n\n\nAdvancing from statistical associations of complex traits with genetic markers to understanding the functional genetic variants that influence traits is often a complex process. Fine-mapping genetic variants can prioritize and select variants for further study, yet the multitude of analytic strategies and study designs makes it challenging to choose an optimal approach. I will review the strengths and weaknesses of different fine-mapping approaches, emphasizing the main factors that lead to success. Topics include interpreting results from genome-wide association  studies, the role of linkage disequilibrium, statistical fine-mapping approaches, trans-ethnic studies, genomic annotation and data integration, and other analysis and design issues.\n\n\n\nSpeaker Profile:\n\n\n\nUnavailable\n\n\n\nSpeaker Poster:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Schaid Poster ( https://stage.utoronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Daniel-Schaid-seminar.pdf )Download\n\n\n\nPhotography Disclosure:\n\n\n\nPhotographs and/or video may be taken of participants at STAGE events.
