SUMMARY:STAGE ISSS: Veronica J. Vieland
DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us for the next instalment of the STAGE International Speaker Seminar Series (ISSS) with\n\n\n\n Veronica J. Vieland\n\n\n\nVice President for Computational ResearchBattelle Chair in Quantitative and Computational Biology,Director, Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine, The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital,Professor of Pediatrics and StatisticsThe Ohio State University\n\n\n\nTalk Title:\n\n\n\n Calibration of Statistical Evidence using Principles of Thermodynamics\n\n\n\nAbstract:\n\n\n\nUnavailable\n\n\n\nSpeaker Profile:\n\n\n\nDr. Vieland is a statistical geneticist with more than 20 years of experience in human genetics. The primary focus of her research is the rigorous measurement of statistical evidence in biomedical applications. She is the developer of the PPL framework, a novel class of statistical methods for measuring evidence in gene mapping/gene identification studies and for characterizing the genetic architecture of complex human genetic disorders. She has published widely on statistical genetic methodology, on computational methods in support of new methodology, and on applications to human diseases, particularly but not exclusively psychiatric disorders. She is the Director of the Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine, which houses investigators from multiple quantitative and computational backgrounds as well as a state-of-the-art parallel computing facility and a staff of dedicated MS-level computer scientists. Over the course of her career she has held multiple NIH grants, including two Career Development Awards in addition to numerous R01s. \n\n\n\nSpeaker Poster:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVeronica Vieland Poster ( https://stage.utoronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ISSS-Poster-Vieland-Veronica.pdf )Download\n\n\n\nPhotography Disclosure:\n\n\n\nPhotographs and/or video may be taken of participants at STAGE events.
